Rimu [Red Pine] (Dacrydium cupressinum)

 

Rimu is a common forest tree in the Valley sometimes reaching a height of 30 metres (up to 55 metres in South Island forests).  It’s diameter has been known to exceed 1.8 metres.  Foliage is of small harsh olive-green leaves on slender branches that hang down giving a pleasing drooping appearance.
