Rewarewa (Knightia excelsa)

yet to get a good image of a mature tree

NZ Honeysuckle is prolific in the Valley and in the Catchpool area with plenty of large specimens to be found.  A forest tree it can attain 35 meters in height but being a slender tree the trunk diameter only reaches 1 meter.  Flowers in spring and is also susceptible to opossum damage.  Foliage is stiff mid green with a saw toothed edge, though in its juvenile form the leave are twice as long and of a paler green.
